The husband and wife team of Maura and Pete Kennedy put on a high energy,
lively and entertaining show that is not to be missed b while playing jangly
folk-pop shot through with influences of the Bryds and Beatles.
Pete first gained national attention in the early Eighties as guitarist for
rising star Mary Chapin Carpenter, and before that Kate Wolf. Later, in
addition to writing and recording his own compositions (eight independent
albums'
worth), Kennedy worked as guitarist for Nanci Griffith, both in the studio
and on the road. Maura had formerly been a member of the Austin country
group,
The Delta Rays. They met when he was playing a one-night stand at the
Continental Room on a night off from touring with Griffith. The couple's
first date
came when they met at Buddy Holly's grave in Lubbock, Texas. A few months
later, the two were touring Europe as part of Nanci Griffith's backing
band--Pete as lead guitarist and Maura playing rhythm and singing harmonies.
Their
first gig together was held in Liverpool as part of Nanci Griffith's Blue
Moon
Orchestra. Pete's exquisite Rockenbacher guitar tones gelled easily with
Maura's sweet voice and her own rhythmic guitar playing as their 1995 debut
album drew excellent reviews with Goldmine magazine recommending the record
as a
"nearly flawless amalgamation of the sort of ringing Brydsy guitars and
gorgeous floating harmonies that make a pure pop fan swoon." They have
released
seven critically acclaimed albums and put on one of the most entertaining
shows
on the circuit.
Further on Down the Road:
*** Cliff Eberhardt has unexpectedly cancelled his 4/1 show with us, We are
sorry for the inconvenience, it happens rarely.... we have no control over
the artists.. however, I think we made out for the better, as we have the
incredible talents of Kenny Edwards (founding member of the Stone Poneys) and
Freddy Koella (guitarist for Bob Dylan) to fill the co-bill with Kaedmon....
thank you Kenny and Freddy for jumping in on short notice".****
