The Mountain Stage NewSong Festival's 2004 lineup features some of the
country's best performing songwriters and groups in a host of genres. The 2004
lineup includes such acclaimed performers as Susan Werner, recently profiled
on National Public Radio for her jazzy CD of original songs "I Can't Be New."
Also heading the festival is powerhouse performer and award-winning songwriter
Darrell Scott, whose songs have been covered by a Who's Who of stars. His
credits include a cut on the newest Keb' Mo album as well as writing hits for
the Dixie Chicks, Garth Brooks and many others while being a star performer in
his own right.
Other NewSong performers include Tom Prasada-Rao, an Ethiopian-born performer
who mixes pop, folk and world beat styles; piano-based singer-songwriter Kenny
White; the hip American roots music quartet Steppinit; Naked Blue, a duo whose
lead singer has often been compared to Melissa Etheridge and Shawn Colvin;
acoustic blues artist, Pops Walker; Robbin Thompson, an eclectic performer and
past bandmate of Bruce Springsteen's; singer-songwriter Peter Mulvey who began
playing in subways but whose songs have now been heard from Ireland to TV's
"Dawson's Creek"; acclaimed performer, composer and Trapezoid founder Paul
Reisler; Kate McDonnell, the first-year NewSong Festival Grand Prize Winner
for performing songwriter; Hunger Mountain Boys, the second-year NewSong
Festival Grand Prize Winners for performing songwriter; Devon Sproule, Mark
Simos, Mad Agnes, Jamal Millner, We're About 9, and Tori Anderson & Possum
Holler. See the NewSong website's Artists page for artist biographies and
contact information.
NewSong is truly an event Where Great Artists Are Discovered. This year's
lineup underscores NewSong's commitment to creating an annual gathering where
festivalgoers will encounter great artists who will delight, inspire and move
them. NewSong is a community-oriented festival which features a host of
workshops on songcraft and performance, family-friendly 'KidSong' activities,
shared music in the campgrounds and wherever songwriters may gather, and a
late night open mic at the Blue Cardinal Cafe coffeehouse. Now in its third
year, NewSong is fast becoming a national convention of performing songwriters
and people who love to hear original music in a relaxed, beautiful setting.
NewSong welcomes performing songwriters of all levels and genres, and devoted
fans of live music and fine festivals. To learn more about the festival,
