It is not a good time to be in retail, even for the large chain book stores.  The rumor is out that Borders may be swallowed up by Barnes & Noble.  Borders has been living on borrowed money for the last few months.  Borders has been dumping its overseas businesses- the Borders UK stores are no longer owned by the US company, and the NZ & Australian stores are also out.

Remember... when you buy from Amazon.com, you support worthy new businesses... like PETS.COM, which got a chunk of $$ from Amazon before going kaput.  And not to mention Jeff Bezos' venture of space travel, which almost cost him his life when his helicopter went down...
