Well,
Without commenting myself I see that you all said some very erudite things. I
am excited that my son will be voting in his first presidential election, and
hopefully my daughter can get her papers together over in New Zealand to make
sure her vote counts again. I have tried to persuade my parents for years that
I'm right, and it usually doesn't end well, but I think we're getting better
about having the discussion anyways. We keep trying. They think I'm a
crackball when it comes to politics, and I don't understand how such
reasonable people can feel good about voting for such right wing candidates. I
think as Americans we discuss politics much less than we might since most of
us can make do with the way things are, and are fairly comfortable enough of
the time. I hope we can get enough information to know who/what we're voting
for. Our marketing machine is so huge that it's hard to get real information.
There is so much doublespeak these days: think Aldous Huxley. (I just know
that T.V. was a bad idea.) I'm still undecided, and since I didn't hear
Hillary in person like I hoped to, I thought I'd put the question out there.
Thanks for the email Amy....and I am personally glad that most Dar fans want
to discuss the state of things and politics. What is folk music without
politics? To me everything is actually political. But how wonderful that we
can all come together with MUSIC! We can win each other over with nonviolence
and love right? Fundamental civility is very important, but how can it be
civil to go to war and gobble up all the planet's resources and dismantle the
constitution? But we can still be civil in our conversations. If we say we
believe in respect for all living things we should show it and live it as best
we can. So, of course I want to one of the fun loving people and vote for a
more humane party.....and yes, please do vote!! I will definitely be voting on
the 5th. And I'll make my best choice. And Dar can just go ahead and vote for
her best choice too! That's real democracy: one person, one voice.
