Diane, I think children and grownup people who suffer(ed) abuse can reflect to
this song. But not only abused people...
I wasn't physically and mentally abused and I did grow up in a loving caring
environment. I think many people, like me, feel that they cannot cope with the
things they've learnt. It just doesn't fit on them. What works for your
parents or other people raising you, may not work for you. Then it gets hard
to really listen to what your heart says...

I am going to a far, far land.
I know it sure as I've a past and a future.
With my maps on the table, you see, I have lost many things,
so many I won't turn back.
The stars of the sea are the same for the land.
--Dar Williams
Out along the shore in a hurricane of ice and foam
Swaying in the roar I was standing on the dock alone
In the night
Where the forces came to play
And maybe I
Should have known to turn away
But I never felt so drawn and bound
To the great unknown
'Til it turned me around
And it sent me home.
