Stumbled across the DVD in Border's last night (on sale, and it
amuses me that a Dar DVD is less expensive than a Dar CD) so I picked it up.

I enjoyed watching it; very good production (especially for a folk
concert in a small venue) and a good overview of Dar's music. I have
not seen Dar in a small space in ages, so that was nice.

I was completely amused during WIWAB, opening the set, to see the
classic jib move of panning down from the chandelier (in this case, a
chinese lantern sort of lamp) towards the performer - a camera move
that one is likely to see at televised awards shows and the like. (I
freelance in video production now and then, so I am occasionally in
the truck as the director sets up and rehearses that shot)

It made me think. Did the director really ask for and set up that
shot? Did the jib operator just set it up out of habit and the
producer like it and take it? Was there production crew ironic
snickering to be doing the classic awards show chandelier move in a
folk club, starting on a paper lantern?
