I really appreciated Dennis' post below- he hit it spot on for me. I love the stories more than the songs- I can hear the songs anytime I pop in a cd- it's the stories that you can't hear anywhere else other than live!
Does anyone like Chris O'Brien here- he's a Dar protegee...(imagine the accent in the proper place here- I don't know how to add it!)
Cheers,
Leslie
\I've seen her live about 15 times over the years and I've never had a
bad
time- I'm of the opinion that a folk singer should tell stories about
the
songs- and other things related to and not related to the songs-
between the
songs.
These interludes can sometimes be as enjoyable as the songs themselves.
I do
understand someone not enjoying this as much as I do, however.
I don't know what other genre you would use to describe Cheryl's music
other
than singer-songwriter folk music. She can play one absolutely
hilarious
tune followed by the most melancholy serious themed song. I think of
her as
the female equivalent of john Gorka- although she's a bit funnier
usually
than John is.
