[dar-list] Pete Seeger - the Power of Song

i had the pleasure of attending this screening last night, as part of
the Tribeca Film Festival.
This documentary which spans the life of Pete Seeger, made me realize
that Dar Williams is in his direct lineage. The interviewees include
Joan Baez, Bruce Springsteen, Dylan, Peter Yarrow, Mary Travers, Arlo
Guthrie, Toshi Seeger, all the Seeger family, Members of Clearwater,
Gov Pataki, Bill Clinton. Ronnie Gilbert
Pete Seeger dedicated his life to local causes and still can be see
singing and raising money for those things. He believed that he could
organize people through song and song could change the people who
therefore change the world.
The documentary will be in wide release, on TV and hopefully on DVD...

it depicts his simple life. His early roots in music and his search
for the American Folk song, his attendance at Harvard, his work at the
Library of Congress which lead him on the road with Woody Guthrie. His
service in WW2, his marriage and family life. Pete built his own house
on the river and his appearance before the House Committee on
Unamerican Activities. Petes work with the Weavers, Arlo and his
grandson is detailed and ofcourse the film ends with his committed to
the Hudson River. Clearwater and the sloop are prominent features.
there is lots of concert footage and recorded footage..

its a great piece of work by Jim Brown.....

maybe there is a way to screen it at Falcon Ridge .... it would be a
fitting tribute to Pete Seeger and the movement he spawned. It would
be in the spirit of Pete to unite people around him..... Like a big
Drive In at Falcon Ridge......the movie is moving and captures the
spirit of falcon ridge..

for me, it was clear that Dar Williams is not too far from Pete...Her
Echo Initiative, her benefits and how she has committed her life and
work are in the Spirit of Pete Seeger...
there is a river that is featured prominently in the movie too...
Maybe she knows it...
