Jude here, longtime Dar lister and longer time FRFF volunteer (I think I am
on year 16 or 17). I'm getting my camping gear together.....a new tent (my
original, bought for the folk fest in 1990 or thereabouts died last year,
and the newer deluxe family tent that my partner and I usually live in is
too big and unweildy for one person (I am going solo this year). I also
have a new dining fly; I went to the local scouting supply store and bought
rugged tent poles and stakes, a new tarp, and have it being field testing
in the backyard as we speak....I've had a couple of traumatic years when
wind and rain destroyed our shelters! So once more into the breech with
another attempt, this time with more professional equipment...
I've visited Camp Dar in the past (although not too often in recent years)
- I camp down in the flatlands with some volunteer friends. This year I got
promoted to co-crew-chief for the Tee Shirts / Merch Sales crew - I've been
crafting a spreadsheet to track artist sales (madness, with at least 77
artists , some with 1-2 CDs, but some with lots, and some with other stuff
to sell: shirts, DVD's, books, etc.) But all this researching the artists
(looking at websites, listening to sample tracks, filling in my spreadsheet
with names and CDs) is getting me excited for the festival.
Anyway, any old Dar Listers out there who remember me (or even if you
don't), feel free to stop by and say hello - either at the CD / Tee Shirt
tent, or at the campsite (look for the inflatable killer whale) down in
volunteer camping / flatlands. I'll try to stop by Dar Camp at some point.....
For those interested, the festival has posted the showcase artists here:
http://www.falconridgefolk.com/performers.html and visiting the artists'
websites, I am excited to be meeting and hearing them!
I also got to the Falcon Ridge Preview Tour (Ellis, Red Molly, Pat Wictor
w\ Cheryl Prashkar) back in May and that got me all excited about the
festival as well - I saw a lot of the volunteers there and the music was
wonderful.
