I know you all already know this, but ERIN MCKEOWN FREAKIN' ROCKS. Go
see her. Especially if she's with her trio.
(Montanans [Montanians?], you're in for a treat when Amy Martin opens
for her in Missoula, too.)
I hadn't seen her for oh, four or five years (!!!!!) when she came to
Eugene last night. She completely captivated the audience with songs
old and new (me, I adore, worship and venerate her new album, SING YOU
SINNERS), and her stage presence is just as compelling as ever (and
she was a lot more together than she was the last time I saw her, when
she had stage presence galore but was kind of a butthead).
Aside from my partner, whom I recently discovered doesn't like jazz
standards or big band music but whom I dragged along anyway (and who
said, "What a perfomer she is!"), I brought along a 65-year-old friend
who said afterwards, "I think that was my first rock show! Was that a
rock show?"
That cracked me up. But Erin did have kick-butt drummer Allison Miller
and amazing keyboard player Art Hirahira along, and it was super (way
too) loud, so I guess it sort of was her first rock show.
Susan Werner is coming in a couple of weeks too. Finally, my people
from the East Coast are coming here! Woot!
luv to all y'all Darlings,
Suzi
