Hey Darlings,
Ah...at last I got to hear acoustic Dar in Oregon. What a joy! Though
she had a cold and a blocked ear (I think she said post-show), she
gave a lovely performance. Lots of songs from Green World, perhaps
because of the need to sing in a lower register and to have songs that
can be sung w/o a band. Interesting to see her in a high school
auditorium, though this one's more like a nice performing arts center.
I don't think I knew anyone else at the concert, surely a first in my
Darlist history (are there other Oregonians out there?).

NOT in order really:
Calling the Moon (the opener)
Beauty of the Rain
After All
Spring Street, with a hilarious meta-commentary, which made me think,
"Ah! Vintage dar! This is why I love her concerts!" (Her voice broke
in the middle of the song, and so she recovered by giving a synopsis
and analyzing her metaphors at the same time, with funny tossaway
comments about how "no one ever gets to appreciate this"--the film
noir postcard/could I just forget the frames I shared with you
bit--and how she's given in to flaky spring street.)
I Had No Right
Babysitter
Easy Way (I Do Not LIke This Song At All--it sounds way too
self-indulgent, but I'm hoping that's a NARRATOR and not Dar, I mean,
yuck, but OTOH, I've come around to some songs I didn't like before,
so...)
One Who Knows
Mercy of the Fallen (w/Anne Weiss doing interesting harmony)
Ended with Iowa and C&P; C&P dedicated to Molly Ivins (big applause
and collective grief)
encore WIWAB
There were some others, I think. Didn't do a set list, of course; was
too busy hoping the high scohol sound guy would fix the feedback loop
from some low guitar chord that was just...yikes.

No one danced. V. sad about that.

Always good to see her in a newish audience, or one that hasn't seen
her for a while so that the most hoary jokes about cellphones adn
lighters go over like they're fresh. I giggled half in awe that the
crowd didn't know what she was going to say before she said it. Then
everyone laughed as they looked around to see the widespread celli
sway.

Others who were there? Comments?

Looking forward to seeing her in Ossining...I think...just a month and
a half; practically like old times. I need to start following some
West Coast singer-songwriters. ;-)

For those who care, Dar wore a black top and black pants. Anne Weiss
opened, and that was painful; I longed for Girlyman or Catie
or...whoops, I'm killing my argument for West Coast s-s'ers.
But all in all, a wonderful evening courtesy of Dar.

Ta,
Suzi
