Alexander, I agree with the things you say and have to be honest that I don't
live close to work and therefore drive 40,000 to 50,000 miles a year. A lot of
people in Holland have bicycles, but not me. I'm thinking on getting one
again. I've gone to school on a bike for years, which was 20 miles a day. My
wife goes to work on her bike everyday...Yes, it is used in my country for
transport, but we've got heavy traffic from cars, trucks, ships and planes
to...

I think the way our laws work is contributing to the way our society is. Ever
noticed buying meat and the package saying contains 80% meat! What's the other
20%? Probably 19% is water, so that they can sell water for the price of meat
and if they put it on the packaging in very tiny letters it's okay with our
laws. If I buy a smoked sausage the chances are pretty high that it's not
smoked, but added taste and that's 'legal'. Those laws say nothing about this
being morally wrong. You can't say that written laws are the absolute boundary
of right and wrong. That's ridiculous...

Further I think it would be a huge improvement if we would pay a fair price
for the products we buy from poor countries. Actually, let those countries
establish their own companies, so they can sell their own products and get the
profit. Now large western companies have control and it only makes them
richer. If we would pay a fair price and the profit will go to their own
people, these products will get more expensive and that's good. Then it will
be more like a luxury product to us. I don't think we have to get rid of all
international trading (please Dar, keep coming back to Europe), but if local
products are much cheaper, they will get used and produced more...

And what to do with all that marketing for products we don't need? It's all a
problem of the majority of people having lack of moral values (or having no
clue) and unfortunately, the majority chooses our liars..I mean politicians.
Yes democracy did bring us many good things, but also a lot bad. I also don't
know a better system than that...

Guess it all started to be about money when companies started selling
themselves in the form of stocks, the worst invention of the seventeenth
century. And which silly country started that?

We can change and maybe the next generation will be smarter. Teenagers write
and thus formulate their opinnions all over the place on the internet. I
cannot remember that from my teen years, although internet was comming up at
that time. Maybe this makes them smarter...Teenagers kick out butts!

Sander

ps: To Alexander (I remembered): Bikes in Holland do have fenders :-)
Initiative now. Its free.
