[dar-list] RIP Tommy Makem

I grew up listening to Tommy Makem and the Clancy Brothers; they were
my Dad's
favorites. I saw Tommy Makem perform with his sons almost a year ago,
and they
were spectacular. When my Dad passed away about 5 weeks ago, his request was
that our family sing some Makem/Clancy songs at the funeral home. We sang
"Isn't it Grand Boys?," which is horribly inappropriate, but it was his most
vehement request. We followed that with "The Parting Glass," which we also
sang a few weeks later in a pub at the beach in New Jersey, where we had
planned to take our Dad on vacation. I'm currently hoping to join or create a
casual Irish band to sing, among other things, covers of Makem/Clancy songs.
- Shawn, coming off a long dar-list lurk period.
For all the money that e'er I spent, I spent it in good company.
And all the harm that e'er I done, alas it was to none but me.
And all I've done for want of wit, to memory now, I can't recall.
So fill to me the parting glass, good night, and joy be with you all.
Oh all the comrades that e'er I had, are sorry for my going away.
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had, would wish me one more day to stay.
But since it falls unto my lot, that I should rise, and you should not,
I'll gently rise, and I'll softly call: good night, and joy be with you all.
