Falcon Ridge Folk Festival 2007 recap
This was FRFF 6 for me. Already. It sort of sounds unreal. It's always like
returning to the origin where everything began.
I might even feel inclined to call this my best FRFF. The complete
atmosphere and vibe was just almost perfect. I'll probably forget to mention
something important...
in general:
* camping on completely flat ground for the 1st time
* Hanging out with Kammy, Susan & Mosh over the complete weekend
* Socializing with people I often only meet at FRFF once a year (you know
who you are)
* Playing rummy under the canopy on Thursday
* Songcircle with Arjuna and Lynn
* Eating yummy food during ICAs[1]
* Listening to the Friday Night's Song Swap in Jen's car after dodging two
assassination attempts by an apparently pissed off demon[2] ;)
* Hanging out with Team Meg under their canopy on a humid Saturday morning
* Vanessa (who I only knew online from the Shindell list) recognizing me
from my myspace photo when I was taking photos at the mainstage
music highlights/ music related:
* This was maybe the first FRFF where I didn't discover any (really) knew
artists.
* Ryan Fitzsimmons rocked the Emerging Artist Showcase as expected :)
* Jason Spooner sounded totally like Mark Erelli's brother
* John Gorka was his typical adorkable self, played a great mainstage set
but the highlight for me was his covering Stan Rogers Northwest Passage at
the workshop stage.
* Dar being hysterically funny as ever and bringing her son on the stage
during Iowa
* Richard Shindell's new song State Of The Union. Oh my. I loved it
instantly when he played it during the Song Swap which turned into
unmitigated obsession after hearing it for the second time on main stage. No
surprise though.
* Seeing Red Molly & We're About Nine at the Budgiedome
* Lucy Kaplansky playing 10 year night and harmonizing with John Gorka
during her mainstage set (Seriously Lucy & John harmonizing is like crack :)
* Arlo playing The City Of New Orleans and being witty and all-around
gracious
-------
1. ICA: Ice cream act. A typical ICA is Lowen & Navarro :P
2. After escaping the torrential rain, mid-way back to camp I must have been
incredibly close to a striking flash of lightning; I mean there was
absolutely zero delay between lightning & thunder. Back at camp I pondered
whether chilling out under the canopy or going to my tent would the best
idea. I opted for the latter. Good choice. After changing clothes and after
waiting for the rain to slow down I noticed that the canopy had collapsed.
