Dear Darlings,
As a member of the list since '95, I remember when this was a happening
place. I learned more about her music here than I could have ever on my
own. Dar-listers were whip smart. There were silly arguments, of
course, but it was almost like an extended family. As I was not
subscribed in recent years I can't comment as to the current state of
affairs or why they have come to pass.
However, I plan to carry her music forward in any case. As a person who
plays a multitude of her songs I will be a practical Dar Juke Box at The
Golden Monkeys, our Philly Folk Fest Camp Site, in a couple weeks. (I
ask again: anyone coming out?!)
And over the years I have (and will continue to) introduced every person
I meet to her music. Lots of them have gone on to buy her CDs and attend
the concerts.
Dar Williams started as a grass roots movement and I hope that she and
we continue to nurture the list as a part of that. Just my two cents.
My apologies if this sounded arrogant, as my part has been a small one
indeed compared to the greater community.
Here's a question to help generate some discussion:
When did Dar get involved with Gandalf Murphy? And could this be the
start of a new evolution in her music?
I've seen him twice at the Philly Folk Festival (he's from South Philly,
in fact) and the man is a delight. Still, it's such a wacky pairing!
