A few weeks ago I took a surprise trip to the east coast....aahhh September at
the Jersey Shore...now there's the end of the summer. (My cards are coming!)
The surprise was that the trip was for a funeral. And it was an emotional
visit, and a fulfilling good-bye and time of connecting with family and
neighbors. Bill Sheehan died on Set. 18th, and the service was on the
International Day of Peace on Sept. 21st. He was drummed out in the fashion of
kings by Frederick Akuffo (Ghana, grandson of a king, drummer, and now the
Bronx and assistant in the sacred transition of death), and a chorus of When
the Saints Go Marching In, and bagpipes, and the beautiful voice of my mother
(singer) who was his wife these last 16 years. I listened to These Four Walls
many times on this trip, and really felt "Even Here We Are." So, even here we
are, and we are blessed, and our humanity still rises. And the ocean ....
(don't know....just important on the island.)
And I also listened to Marc Cohen a lot....since he joined Shawn Colvin on
These Four Walls and I found his CD at Superfresh in Manahawkin. I couldn't go
to Pennsylvania to see/hear Dar since I was a support person for my mom....but
I wondered if I would win the hybrid car....and I didn't either. (And all
along I thought that another reason I was called east might be to be there to
pick up the car....my life actually turns out like that sometimes.)
Now it's back to life in California, working full time, and mothering a 16
year old ......and sometimes just surviving. But the fall is beautiful and the
light is beautiful. And there was Little Miss Sunshine....my latest favorite
movie. Go see it!! Thank G*d for artists. I laughed my head off. REALLY...I'm
still looking for it.

was to tell the truth about politics and the truth about art we should not
believe in war, and we should believe in art." ~ Virginia Woolf in The Three
